Book Editing Too Expensive? Here Are Some Alternatives.

Getting your book professionally edited can be extremely expensive, especially if you’re a weaker writer and / or have written a massive piece. But there are a few ways you can lower, or even eliminate, your editing costs. Keep in mind that none of these methods will give you the same results as hiring a professional. But if financing is the one thing that is holding you back from having your work edited, you may be willing to use some of these lower-cost options. Doing some kind of editing is still better than doing no editing at all.

Story Slice

By doing a few rounds of self-revisions first, you can find ways to cut your manuscript up into smaller pieces. For example, if you have created a 90,000-word fantasy novel, why not make it a trilogy? Cut each section into about 30,000 words and you can then have the novellas edited for about a third of the price you’ve already been quoted, cutting your costs by more than half. After the book is out and making money, you can use some of those proceeds to offset the cost of editing the second book. Use the second book’s profits for editing the third book. Use this trilogy’s profits for editing the next trilogy, and so on.
