How to Outline a Book: Fiction
With How to Outline a Book: Self-Help releasing last Friday (yay!), I figured I’d take some time to give you an overview of the series concept and the general fiction installment of this Writerwerx University collection.
For any newbie writer looking for some guidance when it comes to crafting stronger stories in less time and with less effort (not none, mind you, just less ^_^), the Writerwerx University blog, lessons, Apprenticeship, and books can all be of benefit!
The Premise
HOB-F is all about how to clarify and organize your ideas related to writing a piece of fiction. This can work for romance novels, flash fantasy, literary pieces, science fiction short stories, and more. Poetry might be an exception.
The core piece of guidance I have when it comes to organizing your thoughts is distilling them into a premise. A premise is just a sentence or two that sums up what your book is about. It helps you understand what the heart of your story is. That makes it easier and faster for you to finish a first draft because you tend not to write around in circles or write yourself into corners as much.
