I can’t feel my heartbeat.

I must be dying from the shock of what’s happening. But I don’t miss — I relish in — the movement of his eyes from the comfortable shoes I’m wearing for long stints of standing up to the brown, loose curls knotted at the top of my head, and back down to my eyes. And his pupils are massive in their rings of amber. Reave’s attraction to me is some kind of fluke. But looking at me like that in IGA cashier mode is a full-blown miracle.

Finally, I find my voice.

“Sorry, I…you can have it. I’ll go get ready to ring you up,” I say as I turn on my heel to leave.

“Wait,” he says and it comes out breathy like he’s as aroused as he looks. Like we’ve already been in bed together. I stop in my tracks and almost melt when he closes the distance between us, hovering over my back. He’s a foot taller than me, and I feel every inch of the difference. I don’t know that I’ve ever been this close to someone I am so infatuated with. I mean, how can you not fall for someone when you love the creativity that comes out of them? That shows you who they are. Their mind and soul. Their essence.

I try to remain as calm as I can, but the pulsing between my legs, the racing of my heart, and the sensation of him so close behind me that I can smell him make that a losing battle. His scent…
